History

Simon Trotter, formally the Head mason of York Minster, with over twenty-eight years experience as a stonemason formed Saint Masonry in 2006.

He was apprentice trained at Bath and Portland Stone Firms in Portland, Dorset. During this time he attended South Dorset Technical College, Weymouth where he achieved a City & Guilds and Advanced Craft Certificate in stonemasonry.

To further his career Simon went to Australia for 2 years and worked on restoration projects, including the post office in Sydney and new build projects.

After returning to England he took up employment with the Dean and Chapter of York Minster and remained there for 16 years. The last 7 years he was the Head Mason having a major role in all the restoration projects undertaken.

In 2006, looking for new challenge, he decided to establish Saint Masonry in Thorne near Doncaster. Initially this was on a part time basis whilst still in full time employment. He started by making bespoke fireplaces, working closely along side the customer to achieve the design they required.

In early 2007 due to the success of his business Simon left York Minster to expand Saint Masonry further.
